Sunday Reset: Coltrane, Celebrations & Challah

Join us each week as we explore what’s shaping our world in beauty, wellness, lifestyle, and culture. Through the lens of our team, The Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. is a curated reflection on what we’re reading, eating, purchasing, obsessing over, recommending, and treating ourselves to!

What We’re Reading This Week

Wish Her Safe at Home, Stephen Benatar

Rachel Waring is deliriously happy, and suddenly free. When a great-aunt leaves her a Georgian mansion in another city, Rachel promptly abandons her dreary job, mousy wardrobe, and gloomy roommate. At last, she decides, she can devote herself to beauty, creativity, love, and the sheer pleasure of being alive. But, her extraordinary optimism begins to look a little less straightforward.

Speedboat, Renata Adler

A novel for anyone who suspects that life is more interesting in fragments. Renata Adler’s Speedboat moves through 1970s New York in sharp, funny, beautifully offhand observations: friendships, journalism, parties, politics, disasters, dinner-table conversations. There’s barely a traditional plot, but that’s the point. Adler captures the strange, distracted rhythm of modern life: witty, intelligent, occasionally melancholy, and startlingly alive. It’s a book to dip into and suddenly realize you’ve been reading for two hours.

What We’re Obsessing Over

Fall Skin & The Importance of Vitamin D

As we move into fall, shorter days and less time in the sun can mean less vitamin D exposure. While getting outside is still important, there’s no need to compromise on sun protection, keep enjoying those crisp autumn afternoons, just remember your SPF.

For our skin, we’re also reaching for Danucera’s D7 Serum. Inspired by the skin-supporting effects associated with vitamin D, the nourishing formula helps replenish and revive the complexion while supporting moisture, firmness, and elasticity. It’s an easy addition to your routine as skin starts to feel the effects of cooler, drier weather.

What We’re Recommending

Coltrane 100 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

This September, Philadelphia marks 100 years since the birth of John Coltrane, honoring one of jazz’s most influential musicians and one of the many artists whose work is deeply connected to the city.

Born and raised in North Carolina but shaped in important ways by his years in Philadelphia, Coltrane went on to redefine what jazz could be through his innovative approach to saxophone, composition, and improvisation. To celebrate his centennial, Philadelphia Museum of Art is bringing together a series of events throughout the month that explore his life, music, and lasting influence.

It’s a fitting celebration for a city with such a rich history of nurturing artists and creative thinkers. If you’re in Philadelphia this September, Coltrane 100 is an opportunity to experience his legacy through the city that helped shape it.
