Collection: Spicy Fragrances

Spicy fragrances use cardamom, pepper, saffron, clove, and cinnamon to add heat and complexity, and spice almost always works as a modifier rather than as the main subject.

Unlike floral or woody scents, spice rarely carries a fragrance on its own. Cardamom brings an almost mentholic warmth and appears in a great many masculine compositions. Black pepper is dry and sharp, with a top note that reads almost marine and pairs unusually well with citrus and wood. Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world and smells leathery and slightly metallic. Clove is phenolic and intensely warm, and cinnamon turns harsh very quickly when it is overdosed. Spice can open a fragrance alongside citrus or anchor it deep in the base.
