Sunday Reset: Satire, Spice & Shearling

Join us each week as we explore what’s shaping our world in beauty, wellness, lifestyle, and culture. Through the lens of our team, The Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. is a curated reflection on what we’re reading, eating, purchasing, obsessing over, recommending, and treating ourselves to!

What We’re Reading This Week

The Rest Is Silence, Augusto Monterroso

A wickedly funny portrait of literary vanity, The Rest Is Silence follows Eduardo Torres, a provincial Mexican literary critic whose confidence far exceeds his talent. Told through a chorus of unreliable reminiscences from friends, family, and servants, the novel gradually assembles a portrait of a man whose grand opinions are matched only by his spectacular misunderstandings. Part literary satire, part comic character study, this novel is sharp, surreal, and wonderfully strange. A sly meditation on criticism, ego, and the peculiar pleasure of being completely convinced you are right.

The Fawn, Magda Szabó

Magda Szabó’s The Fawn is an intimate portrait of a woman shaped by memory, ambition, and the wounds she has carried for too long. Eszter, a celebrated actress in postwar Budapest, looks back on a childhood marked by poverty, resentment, and her complicated bond with Angela, the girl she could never quite forgive. Unfolding as a confession, the novel moves between childhood and adulthood, love and bitterness, art and regret. Szabó writes with extraordinary psychological precision, creating a narrator who is difficult, vulnerable, and impossible to look away from. A quietly devastating study of what we remember, and what we refuse to let go.

What We’re Eating

Hommali, NYC

A deeply personal take on Thai cooking, Hommali brings the flavors of Bangkok to New York through heirloom rice, housemade ferments, and a menu that moves well beyond the familiar. The cooking is bold and layered, with standout dishes like tom yum seafood cocktail, beef tartare with dry-aged heart and tripe crackers, and rich beef cheek Panang curry. Rice takes center stage throughout, including a selection of heirloom varieties, and even makes its way into the cocktails, from a chile-spiked tomato drink to banana and rice-infused whiskey. Come hungry, settle in, and give yourself time to linger. The colorful bathrooms are worth a quick detour, too.

What We’re Obsessing Over

Jane Wade x Danucera at NYFW

We’re obsessing over what happened backstage at Jane Wade this NYFW, where the runway prep started with something just as important as the final look: the skin underneath it.

Jane Wade’s approach to fashion is all about intention, structure, movement, and every detail considered. Danucera brought that same philosophy to skin prep, focusing on the essentials: texture, moisture, and skin that looked healthy before makeup ever touched it.

There was also a familiar face backstage. We first met Alicia in January, and three years into modeling (and several Jane Wade runways later) she’s kept one constant in her routine: D22 Tonic. A small reminder that great skin is all about consistency.

Five steps. No excess. Just the right things, done well. We’ll be taking that philosophy with us long after the runway lights go down.

What We’re Recommending

Barnes Foundation: Spotlight Tour

For a little art-world drama, head to the Barnes Foundation for Firestorm! Outrage!, an October Spotlight Tour revisiting one of Philadelphia’s great cultural clashes. In 1923, Dr. Albert Barnes unveiled his collection of modern European art to a city that, to put it mildly, was not impressed. Critics dismissed the work, setting off a very public feud between Barnes and the Philadelphia press. A century later, many of those same paintings are considered masterpieces. The tour brings you face-to-face with the works that caused the uproar and asks an intriguing question: what makes art radical, and who gets to decide? A fascinating way to look at the Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia, and how our ideas about taste evolve over time.
